Cats Protection

During my early stages as an eLearning developer, I had the opportunity to work on an advanced Cats Protection module. As an advanced JavaScript developer, I spearheaded the development of this module, which proved to be one of my initial eLearning projects. I meticulously dissected the module, piece by piece, in order to understand its structure and components. This process not only improved my JavaScript skills but also enabled me to become the go-to developer for troubleshooting and resolving issues, thanks to the time and effort I dedicated to honing these skills.

The Cats Protection module aimed to transform their extensive 4-day volunteer management training course into a blended learning programme. This comprehensive approach involved the creation of 12 eLearning modules, supplemented by regular live online learning sessions and context-specific activities. The resulting programme, known as VCP at Home, garnered recognition and was shortlisted for a Training Journal Award in 2019, specifically in the category of Best Use of Technology.

Working closely with the Cats Protection project team, we conducted a thorough review of their existing face-to-face programme. Based on our findings, we proposed a well-designed blended approach that would cater to the diverse needs of the participants. This collaborative effort enabled subject matter experts to develop tailored source materials in line with the agreed design. Such meticulous attention to detail was essential when dealing with a programme of this magnitude and complexity. The modules developed within VCP at Home covered a wide range of topics, including volunteering and the law, recruitment planning, attracting the right volunteers, volunteer inductions, managing risk, managing change, and conflict resolution. These modules incorporated interactive elements such as context-specific scenarios and exercises, empowering learners to effectively apply their newly acquired knowledge. Working on the Cats Protection module not only enhanced my JavaScript skills but also provided valuable experience in project collaboration, instructional design, and overcoming intricate challenges in eLearning. The success of VCP at Home showcased the effectiveness of the blended learning approach in accommodating learners from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of expertise.
